General Instruction

  • Please read the instructions for the period Reading section. The instructions will indicate how many passages you will receive and the time you have to answer questions about these passages. Make managing your time to answer all questions.
  • The test you can go include additional questions in the Reading and Listening section that are not counted in your score.
  • It is either questions that enable ETS to make notes received comparable test all test administrations or new questions that enable ETS to determine if they work properly under normal test.
  • A standard English QWERTY keyboard is used for the test. We recommend you practice typing on a QWERTY keyboard before taking the test.
  • Accents of English native speakers

  • The Listening and Speaking sections of the TOFEL iBT include other accents of English mother tongue speakers in addition to accents of North America. It is possible to hear British accents, New Zealand and Australia.
  • ETS added these accents to better reflect the diversity of accents of native English speakers that you may encounter during your studies abroad.
  • You will find examples similar to what you might hear in the Listening and Speaking sections.
