IELTS Listening Description

  • Paper has Four sections, each with ten questions. The questions are designed so that the answers appear in order to listen.
  • The first two sections deal with situations defined in social contexts of everyday. There is a conversation between two speakers
  • In section 1 (eg : a conversation about travel arrangements) and a monologue
  • In Section 2 (eg a speech on local facilities). The last two sections deal with situations defined in educational and training contexts.
  • In section 3, it is a conversation between two main speakers (for example, two university students in discussions, perhaps guided by a tutor),
  • And Section 4 is a monologue on an academic subject. Recordings are heard once. They include a range of accents, including British, Australian, New Zealand and US.

  • Reply During the listening test, test takers write their answers on the question paper as they listen and at the end of the test are given 10 minutes to transfer their answers to an answer sheet.   • The listening test is marked by certified labels, which are regularly inspected to ensure reliability.
  • After scoring the test center, all answer sheets are returned to Cambridge English Language Assessment for analysis.
  • A band score conversion table is produced for each version of the listening test results in scores of 40 in the scale 9 IELTS bands. Results are reported in whole bands and half bands.
